Mauricio Pochettino’s comments about needing new signings, combined with the approaching January window, have got all the rumour writers firing up their columns thinking about who we might sign next month.
One new name that has emerged today courtesy of TeamTalk is Nico Elvedi. The Borussia Monchengladbach defender is apparently one of the defensive options we’re looking at, with his ability to play in the middle or at right back particularly tempting now that Reece James is set for another spell out.
It’s also noted that Elvedi has just appointed “super agent” Pini Zahavi as his representative, something players tend to do before making their big move. The 27 year old would break Chelsea’s pattern of signing only young players – but that might be considered a good thing now given the callow squad we’ve assembled.
There have apparently been discussions with multiple clubs about his future, but it looks like we could be emerging as a real late option here.
