Nobody excelled, obviously, in a 1-5 defeat at Anfield. From the ashes being raked over, it’s becoming clear amongst national outlets (and more ‘objective’ viewers than club fan sites) that one of the Hammers’ team gave a performance that wasn’t bad: As one source puts it, he gave an ‘impressive display” against Liverpool.
I’m not sure I’d be quite so quick to lavish praise, but ok, let’s read on.
Sportsview.co.uk and The Daily Mail were both of the opinion that summer signing Crysencio Summerville acquitted himself far more positively than most in the Liverpool defeat. Sportsview claimed it was: ‘A decent performance” by Summerville .
The Daily Mail went further: ..“Gave the 22-year-old a 6/10 rating noting he “looked sharp every time he got the ball”. They also believe the young winger could bring “some much-needed excitement” to the club.
Six marks out of ten is hardly world beating but compared with some of the ratings on show both from Gonzo’s article and national outlets, Crysencio should not feel too upset about getting six!
After joining West Ham this summer from Leeds United in a deal worth around £25 million, the winger has featured in four Premier League games so far, but three of them have been from the bench.
I hope that is about to change as he certainly showed why he is worth a starting place on the left for the Premier League now: Every outing he has troubled defenders and will only gain in confidence as his coach picks him to start more often. We need to see him in action at the weekend against Brentford.
