The Premier League season is five weeks old and already our West Ham United team has its work cut out to progress up the table, with three defeats one draw and a solitary win over Crystal Palace – points have so far proved tough to come by for Julen Lopetegui’s men.
One area where the statistics are looking much more buoyant is in that of attendances – West Ham sit at the top of this league in any case- according to insideworldfootball.com.
The Irons can count themselves as ‘capacity kings’ of The Premier League, filling an impressive 99.95% of seats on match day five – which means virtually a sell-out capacity audience witnessed the 0-3 loss to Chelsea.
Over the same weekend Liverpool managed an almost as impressive 99% occupancy meaning just 364 empty seats – as a huge crowd watched the game at Anfield against Bournemouth.
Sadly Spurs achieved the highest numbers – 61,246 fans saw the home side beat Bournemouth 3-1. Even the lowest capacity % of the weekend were pretty impressive, with Southampton still selling out almost 96% of their 32,384 seats. Some impressive gates all round, certainly an indication that the Premier League is in good shape and mega-business for the largest clubs with gate money approaching £1.5 million a time at London Stadium even by my schoolboy maths.
Last data available for West Ham (2022-3) shows matchday income at £41 million including of course last years’ European matches.
At least, for the foreseeable future, there’s one league table we don’t mind looking at.
