Tomas Soucek salvaged a point for West Ham United against Brentford in the end on Saturday.
Despite his never-say-die-attitude, Tomas Soucek actually shared after the match that he’s heard that some West Ham fans don’t like him.
That’s utter rubbish if you ask me. Tomas Soucek is a fan favourite amongst the West Ham faithful, but some supporters do criticise his lack of ability on the ball.
It’s ok to praise his commitment to the cause and criticise his technical ability at the same time – the two things are not mutually exclusive.
Julen Lopetegui is clearly a big fan of Soucek. Many thought the 29-year-old would be moved on in the summer, when the Spaniard took over at the London Stadium.
However, the Czech Republic international has proven once again that he is a vital member of this team, and he now has two Premier League goals to his name this season.
Both goals have been crucial strikes that have earned the Hammers points.
However, after the game against Brentford, Soucek admitted that he and his teammates should be embarrassed…
West Ham star Tomas Soucek ashamed of what happened vs Brentford
Thankfully, the 29-year-old midfielder saved us from a defeat in west London on Saturday.
We now have one more game to play before the next international break – a home clash with Ipswich Town next weekend.
Three points there is an absolute must, but it’s still incredibly frustrating that we didn’t manage to get the win against the Bees.
The West Ham players made things so hard for themselves when they conceded after just 40 seconds, and Soucek told BBC Sport that he and his teammates should be embarrassed:
He said, “We have to be embarrassed. We saw how they scored those two goals [in the opening minute against Tottenham and Manchester City] and they did it against us.“
“We all prepared very well for it and we still conceded. We had to chase the result for another 90 minutes.“
The fact that the Hammers players didn’t learn after the Bees had done the exact same thing twice already this season is alarming.
Alarm bells ringing at West Ham
On face value, a point away at Brentford is a decent result.
However, a win really was needed today, in order to get our season on track.
The Hammers still seem to be miles of the levels required to finish inside the top half of the table, let alone the top seven!
Lopetegui has a lot of work to do on the training ground with his players, if he is to turn things around before the situation turns desperate.
West Ham have so many good players – we are far to good to be languishing down near the relegation zone.
The pressure is continuing to crank up on Hammers head coach Julen Lopetegui.
And West Ham’s draw with Brentford today won’t do anything to ease that.
