Bayern Munich clamored for João Palhinha for more than a year before a deal for the Fulham FC midfielder finally went through.
A year after a near miss at signing him, Bayern Munich got the deal done and the destroyer No. 6 that the team so desperately needed was now in tow!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
His truth is marching on.
Well…not quite.
Palhinha has been….fine, but he had trouble with the transition from England to Germany and found himself behind Joshua Kimmich and Aleksandar Pavlović on the depth chart before getting injured.
Such is life in Bavaria.
Now, before you start slinging tomatoes my way, I am not damning the move or shredding Palhinha. The Portugal international was decent during his appearances, but just not good enough to unseat Kimmich and Pavlović, who both outplayed Palhinha.
The developing chemistry between Kimmich and Pavlović could evolve into something special, while Palhinha just could not seem to get fully aligned with any of his teammates…at least not yet.
Regardless, Palhinha will not grab a starting role this season — and he might not unseat Kimmich or Pavlović next season either, which would make his transfer a bit of a disappointment. Bayern Munich did not get Palhinha to be the third wheel in the midfield, but that might really be where he ultimately ends up.
