Ange Postecoglou has made a brave decision to rely on Fraser Forster in goal following Guglielmo Vicario’s injury
Tottenham Hotspur are going through a difficult phase with Ange Postecoglou failing to get positive results in the Premier League.
The Lilywhites are 11th in the Premier League following their 2-2 draw at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers, extending their winless run to three games. They have won just once in their last six games in the Premier League and will face an in-form Newcastle United next in the New Year.
Ange Postecoglou has been extremely unfortunate with injuries in his second season in North London, affecting the routines, stability and consistency in the team’s performance levels and results. This has led to speculation surrounding the 59-year-old’s future at White Hart Lane. However, the chiefs at the Hotspur Way have no plans to sack him, and are instead planning to bolster the squad in January.
Transfer news guru Fabrizio Romano claims that Tottenham will not sign a new goalkeeper despite losing Guglielmo Vicario to a long-term injury. In November, Vicario suffered an ankle fracture in Spurs’ 4-0 win over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League. He underwent surgery and has been subsequently ruled out until late February, with Fraser Forster stepping up in his absence.
Postecoglou has decided to keep his faith in Forster until Vicario returns from injury, and even though Romano has doubled down on the Tottenham boss’ idea to not invest in a goalkeeper, Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham thinks the club would leave themselves short by totally depending on Forster for the foreseeable future.
“I think Tottenham will sign a goalkeeper on loan in January,” John Wenham exclusively told Tottenham News.
“We still don’t know when Vicario will return. If he isn’t back until February or March, that is a lot of the season gone already. Therefore, Spurs would be taking a risk if they didn’t bring in a goalkeeper and something was to happen to Forster.
“As a result, I think a keeper is likely to be brought in on a loan deal.”

Truly, Spurs would take a big risk by not signing a new glovesman this month and entirely depending on Forster, who has been extremely shaky and error-prone in recent games. At 36, the ex-England international is not a solution for the future and is expected to depart once his contract expires in June (Transfermarkt).

Big Ange will be shorn of options if Forster suffers an unfortunate injury. Should that happen, the Greece-born tactician will have to rely on inexperienced goalkeepers such as Brandon Austin and Alfie Whiteman. Thus, it would make total sense for the club to bolster the shot-stopper unit, preferably on a short-term deal.
