Tottenham’s season has been far from ideal, finishing the year with a draw instead of a victory. With nine players sidelined due to injuries, the team faces significant challenges. Spurs are now heavily reliant on the upcoming winter transfer window to make impactful signings that can help Ange Postecoglou get the team back on track.
Tottenham Hotspur secured Timo Werner on loan from RB Leipzig during the winter 2024 transfer window and extended the arrangement in the summer. However, the forward has struggled to make an impact this season, registering just one goal and three assists in 23 appearances, with no goals in 16 Premier League matches.
Leipzig are not in favour of Werner’s early return
Timo Werner, who previously experienced the Premier League during a brief stint with Chelsea, returned to English football with Tottenham at the start of last year. Initially considered a promising addition to improve Spurs’ thin striker options, Werner has struggled to meet expectations. In 37 appearances for the Lilywhites, the 28-year-old has contributed only nine goals and assists combined, raising concerns about his form and fitness.
Speculation is growing that Werner could depart Tottenham in the next transfer window, with Bild providing the latest update on his future.
Timo Werner’s return to RB Leipzig in January is off the table, as the Bundesliga side has no interest in recalling him early due to his €10m per year salary. The German forward will remain at Tottenham on loan until the end of the season, fulfilling the terms of the agreement. Ange Postecoglou has given Werner limited opportunities in the league, starting him only three times this season. Unfortunately, the 28-year-old has failed to make an impact when called upon. Tottenham holds an option to purchase Werner for over €12m next summer as part of the loan deal.
However, Bild reports that it is highly unlikely the north London club will exercise this option, citing the attacker’s underwhelming form as the primary reason.

Leipzig is reportedly concerned about Werner’s potential return, as he remains under contract with the German club until 2026. Werner’s market value has taken a significant hit, plummeting from €80m in March 2022 to €15m currently, with further decline expected if his struggles persist.
