Ange Postecoglou drops latest injury updates on his key defensive trio
Tottenham Hotspur are suffering an unprecedented injury situation this season which has left Ange Postecoglou and the fans extremely frustrated.
The Australian tactician will be without several players for Spurs’ Premier League home game against Newcastle United on Saturday due to a mix of injuries, suspension and illness. Destiny Udogie was the latest player to enter the treatment room following a hamstring injury sustained last weekend during the 2-2 draw with Wolves. He is set to miss a minimum of six weeks.
Ange Postecoglou, speaking at Friday’s pre-match press conference ahead of the Newcastle clash, addressed many topics including Spurs’ injury situation. He gave an update on his defenders Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Ben Davies, whilst naming the players who should soon be back in action. (h/t Football London)

“At this stage Richy and Mikey Moore are the next cabs off the rank, we’re hoping next week. Ben, Micky and Romero all kind of around the same time, back end of January.”
Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Ben Davies have all been on the sidelines due to their injuries. Romero and Van de Ven both returned from their respective injuries against Chelsea at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in early December.
However, the centre-back duo were withdrawn in each half of the 4-3 defeat to Chelsea. Having been surprise inclusions ahead of the match, Postecoglou said afterwards that it had not been a gamble to play them from the start, despite the injuries they then suffered. Romero managed only 15 minutes before going down with a quad problem. Van de Ven played 79 minutes before sustaining a ‘reoccurrence of injury’ to his hamstring.

Davies has unfortunately also been a victim of a hamstring problem, sustained in the 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth in early December. He returned to training in the final week of December only to suffer a setback, and has since been ruled out for a couple of weeks.

The return of the defensive trio cannot come sooner for Big Ange and Spurs, who currently have just one fit central defender and two right-backs. Them coming back would provide a huge lift to the squad, helping bring some sort of stability to the backline.
