Tottenham lost their 10th game of the Premier League season on Saturday
Tottenham Hotspur’s woeful season continued on Saturday as they were beaten 2-1 by Newcastle United at home in the Premier League.
Ange Postecoglou witnessed his side suffer another loss—Spurs’ 10th of the Premier League campaign. It was an exciting game to watch as always has been under the Greek-Australian tactician, with both teams scoring their opening goals within the first seven minutes.
The North London side took the lead in the fourth minute thanks to a diving Dominic Solanke header from an inch-perfect Pedro Porro cross. Within two minutes, Newcastle equalised through Anthony Gordon with a fantastic left-footed strike. However, Gordon’s goal wasn’t without controversy.
The Magpies took a 2-1 lead through their in-form striker Alexander Isak in the 38th minute with Tottenham defender Radu Dragusin playing a part in the goal. Ange Postecoglou’s side showed effort and intensity to get something out of the game but the visitors defended as a unit and left White Hart Lane with the points.
After the game, former Arsenal defender Martin Keown slammed Tottenham’s lack of balance and consistency in play.
“Tottenham are always in such a rush to play with high energy. There is a balance to be had. Just slow down a little bit,” Martin Keown said on Final Score (h/t BBC Sport).
“If you can’t complete a pass come down to a lower level and make it work.
“They have good players but they aren’t consistent enough. 10 defeats is a really awful showing.”
As it has been the case with Spurs for months now, they only have themselves to blame. With a patched-up defence that consisted of Djed Spence, Radu Dragusin, Archie Gray and Pedro, Tottenham looked all over the place.
The obsession to play out from the back without specialist defenders and lack of form came back to haunt Big Ange’s side. A poor pass from Pape Matar Sarr led to Newcastle’s equaliser, albeit it was a controversial one. Nonetheless, it was another mistake and could have easily been avoided.

After taking the lead so early, Tottenham never tried controlling the game and continued playing their expansive, open brand of football. This wasn’t the first time they let a lead slip and drop points as the Lilywhites’ horrendous home form continued.

The lack of consistency, balance and control in play has been awful from the North Londoners, and while it has been evident for a long time now, Big Ange not addressing it yet continues to astonish the fans.
