West Ham remain firmly in the race for Brighton & Hove Albion striker Evan Ferguson.
Claret & Hugh spoke to a source at West Ham this evening, who confirmed earlier reports suggesting that Brighton could be open to a deal toward the end of January.
In a surprising twist, it was also suggested that Arsenal’s reported interest in the Irish striker is being exaggerated to help Brighton secure the best possible deal for Ferguson. While the Gunners are believed to have some interest, he is not a priority on their list of transfer targets.
West Ham have also been linked with Wolves’ forward Hwang Hee-chan, with some outlets claiming Ferguson’s potential injury may have deterred further bids from the Hammers.
However, the club remain in contention for the talented young target man and understand that any deal must not be left until the last minute.
A senior West Ham source informed Claret & Hugh on Friday that the club are still monitoring “multiple targets” but acknowledged fierce competition among several Premier League clubs also in search of forwards this window.
West Ham are keen to keep their transfer plans under wraps. Notably, there have been very few leaks from non-West Ham journalists and ITKs, who typically provide insights into the club’s transfer dealings as they progress.
