AFC Bournemouth have suffered a huge injury blow, losing striker Evanilson after the Brazilian suffered a broken bone in his foot.
The Cherries record signing suffered a broken metatarsal during the match against Everton on Saturday and the 25-year-old has already undergone surgery.
A brief statement from AFC Bournemouth stated that…
“The club’s medical staff will now provide Evanilson with their full support through the rehabilitation process, ensuring he has the best possible recovery.”
Evanilson has made 20 appearances for the club since his summer move from Porto, scoring 5 goals and winning 3 penalties as he hit the ground running following his move to the Premier League.
His injury leaves the Cherries severely short of numbers in attack, with Enes Unal the only first-team striker in the squad.
The 27-year-old made the move to the Cherries 12 months ago, initially on loan but with an obligation to purchase him for £14 million, he has been limited to just 2 Premier League starts during the current campaign, but has made 15 appearances from the bench, scoring twice and claiming one assist. He will instantly become AFC Bournemouth first choice striking option whilst Evanilson is unavailable. A selection which will likely alter the Cherries attacking system as he is a very different option to what Evanilson provides.
Another option could be recalling Daniel Jebbison from his loan with Championship side Watford. However, the 21-year-old has struggled with his loan move to England’s second tier, playing just 380 minutes with three starts under his belt.
Could the Cherries make a move during the January transfer window to bolster their attacking options?

Really gutting news this. Crucial to the way we play. Love to think Unal can step up and would love to be proved wrong but I don’t believe he can.
The only silver lining is this didn’t happen in the first week of Feb. We have a chance to loan a replacement. – To join the conversation, please click here.
