Manchester City are hoping to snap up Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt before the end of the January transfer window.
The Egyptian international has been heavily linked with a move to the Etihad over the past week and it seems that the Premier League champions have stepped up their interest.
English newspaper The Telegraph claim that Pep Guardiola’s side are “pushing” to sign Marmoush for £50m this month.
The 25-year-old has been in excellent form this season, scoring 18 goals and providing 12 assists in only 24 appearances. His ability to play right across the front three also makes him an attractive target.
However, Frankfurt were hoping to keep hold of him until the summer so it remains to be seen whether the Cityzens will have any luck in persuading the Bundesliga side to let the player leave now.
City are not the only Premier League club interested in the forward
Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool have also been credited with an interest in Marmoush but it does appear as though City have advanced negotiations the furthest.
At the weekend, it was reported that contact had been made with the player and his representatives about a potential move. Marmoush is said to have responded very positively to the enquiry.
Salah is a big fan of Marmoush
The Frankfurt forward is an international teammate of Mo Salah. He has often been compared to the Liverpool forward and, while he played down the similarities, Salah has been keen to talk up the forward’s abilities. Speaking in an interview back in November, he said:
“Omar Marmoush: incredibly talented and currently a key player for his club and the national team. But I hope he can stay away from comparisons because they will keep putting him under constant pressure. I just want him to avoid the idea of comparisons.”
