Amanda Staveley has been in talks with fresh investment in another English club almost the moment she left Tyneside last year. Tottenham Hotspur for long has been touted as her next destination, with club chairman Daniel Levy having admitted the need for outside investment.
To that end, Staveley has been in fresh contact with another party that could finally bring this saga to a close.
Fresh Amanda Staveley contact emerges amid Tottenham takeover speculation
As reported by City AM, British businesswoman Amanda Staveley has been in touch with parties from Qatar amidst talk of investment in Tottenham Hotspur.
As confirmed by TBR Football in conversation with Liverpool University’s football finance expert Kieran Maguire, the North Club is the only Premier League side that could be subject to a Staveley-led investment in the coming months.
The 51-year-old has been linked with an investment in Tottenham ever since leaving her post at Newcastle United last summer, having helped complete the Saudi Arabia–led takeover of the Magpies in 2021. She is also credited with the Abu Dhabi Group takeover of Manchester City back in 2008.
Staveley is also in court against Barclays Bank demanding compensation over deals made during the 2008 global financial crisis, having lodged a fresh complaint in the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in Paris last year.
TTLB Opinion
Both on and off the pitch, Tottenham seem to have arrived at a stalemate. The latest chapter under Ange Postecoglou seems to be another one in a long line of attempts that seem to take the club nowhere.
The exciting long-term project of Mauricio Pochettino was ultimately binned off in pursuit of glory, and the so-called trophy winners thus called upon did not deliver Spurs the one thing they have been craving for since 2008. The rot at this point seems so systemic that the football management part on the pitch no longer seems to be the only thing that needs replacing.
Under the stewardship of Daniel Levy in the ENIC ownership, Spurs have been, to their credit, a well-run club, but that alone no longer suffices their own targets, and so changes are needed.
Since her departure from Newcastle in the summer, Staveley has been linked with Tottenham, as have emerged multiple contacts between ENIC and Qatar, the latter particularly interested in investment in an English club, having previously tried in vain to purchase Manchester United.
At this point, it seems a matter of when and not if Tottenham’s ownership situation changes. When it does, regardless of the geopolitical implications the fans would only cheer upon the prospect of a new era, hoping things change for the better.
