Tottenham academy kid Alfie Dorrington is set to go out on loan this month
Ange Postecoglou would have been thrilled with Tottenham Hotspur’s performance and win over Liverpool in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final on Wednesday evening.
Spurs produced a comprehensive display to beat Arne Slot’s men 1-0 at home and will carry an advantage into the second leg of the tie at Anfield at the start of February. With the victory, they also ended their four-game winless run across all competitions.
Ange Postecoglou and Co. must now quickly turn their focus toward the FA Cup. The North Londoners kickstart their FA Cup campaign with a trip to Lamb Ground Stadium to face National League minnows Tamworth FC on Sunday.
As is standard in press conferences held at the Hotspur Way training ground, Postecoglou was asked to shed light on academy kid Alfie Dorrington and the club’s plans with him for the second half of the season. The Tottenham boss told Football London:
“Alfie is training with us and he has been around the first-team squad and part of the first-team squad. He had a pretty significant injury which kept him out of football for quite a while. But he is part of the squad and he probably needs to get some game time so we will look for a loan for him.”
Alfie Dorrington made his senior Tottenham debut against Southampton at the St Mary’s Stadium in December, coming on as a substitute. It was a good time for him to enter the fray in the second half as Spurs were leading 5-0.
The teenager has been around the Tottenham first team for a long time now. He is a regular in senior training sessions, though, the centre-back has not got opportunities to showcase his talent even in the midst of an injury crisis at the club.
Dorrington would have hoped to get more minutes than a 13-minute cameo against Southampton last month in the injury absences of Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Ben Davies. Instead, Big Ange has used the likes of Archie Gray and Djed Spence as makeshift central defenders in desperate attempts to fill the hole.

This suggests the Greek-Aussie tactician is not quite convinced with the homegrown talent, hinting at a potential loan move this month. Big Ange stressed on Friday that while Dorrington is training well and part of the first-team squad, the English prospect could benefit from a loan move as he needs game time after being out injured for such a long time.

Perhaps, Spurs will have a plan to use Dorrington in the FA Cup tie with Tamworth on Sunday before farming him out on loan for the rest of the season.
