There have been talks of Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Palmeiras midfielder Richard Rios, with the North Londoners looking to add depth and quality in the middle of the park in the ongoing winter transfer window.
There have been reports of the Lilywhites tabling a bid for Rios, which was quashed by the Brazilian club, with Palmeiras appearing determined to resist any advances in any possible exit this month as they look to keep hold of their midfield star for the upcoming Club World Cup.
While the speculation didn’t include the bid amount, there were expectations that the Premier League giants would return with an improved bid.
Rios agent speaks out
Rios’ rising influence, complemented by his recently extended contract, means Palmeiras’ position is understandable; however, Rios’ agent, Gabriel Dias, has dismissed the reports, insisting that there are no concrete offers for his client, but he did not close the door entirely on a possible transfer, admitting that such an exit in the ongoing window would be difficult but not ‘impossible.’
Speaking to Vamo Futebol (via the Last Word on Spurs X account), Dias said: “We heard some rumours about the subject that were speculating his name since last year. But nothing concrete has arrived yet.”
Tottenham need for a midfielder
The 24-year-old has a reputation for being a technical presence with elegant vision and composure on the ball, and the Colombian’s skill set could also prove valuable in Postecoglou’s midfield given how he is looking for depth and dynamism in his roster.
For Tottenham, they have been linked with ample midfielders in the ongoing market, and it is to be seen who Levy and the chiefs at N17 think is the ideal fit for the project at White Hart Lane.
