Despite his team always appearing to be in control of the match, Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany was likely not very comfortable during the squad’s 1-0 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Bayern Munich dominated at times, but was not always effective or efficient in the final third. Still, the coach liked what he saw from the team in terms of perseverance.
“It wasn’t easy, but the mentality was good. We had chances in the first half and even more chances in the second half. We should’ve scored a second and decided the game earlier but we didn’t. The mentality was right. It was important to take the three points back home and keep a clean sheet,” said Kompany (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “It’s a very tough away game and the first game after the break. When you create as many chances as we did today, you want to score 1, 2 or 3 more goals and decide the game. But we didn’t. What I liked was the energy and mentality. We had many players out, but nobody complained. We fought and stayed calm until the end.”
Bayern Munich could have easily won 4-0 or 5-0 on a different day, but just could not get fully in sync while attacking. However, three points were packed away and put in the bag for a return trip back to Munich.
That alone made the trip well worth it.
