Graham Potter’s arrival could see one West Ham United player go back on his original decision.
West Ham appointed Graham Potter to replace Julen Lopetegui at the London Stadium on Thursday.
One of the main areas Potter needs to strengthen is his centre-back department.
He admitted as much during his first press conference in charge of the Hammers.
Our defending has been awful over the past year or so.
In 2024, West Ham conceded more Premier League goals than any other club.
Potter has to sort out our back-line if he is to succeed at the London Stadium, there are no two ways about that.
£30m man could stay at West Ham after Graham Potter arrival
It seems like it will be all change at the London Stadium over the next two transfer windows.
There will undoubtedly be many incomings and outgoings over the course of the next seven months.
And one man could be set to return to the club from a loan spell away it seems.
Nayef Aguerd left West Ham to join Real Sociedad on a season-long loan in the summer.
And Estadio Deportivo claim that the Morocco international could actually return to West Ham in the summer.
West Ham paid £30 million to sign Aguerd from Rennes in the summer of 2022 (BBC).
The 28-year-old recently admitted that he is unsure what the future holds for him, and insisted that a return to the Hammers could still be on in the summer.
Earlier this season, he was described by the Spanish press as Sociedad’s ‘most outstanding player’.
In 13 La Liga outings so far this season, Aguerd has averaged 1.5 tackles, 3.5 clearances and 2.5 successful aerial duels per match.
He has made 62.6 passes per game on average and has recorded a 88.9% completion rate (Who Scored).
Incredibly, Nayef Aguerd has actually looked very solid out in Spain, but could he really return to West Ham at the end of this season?
When Aguerd left the Hammers in the summer, he insisted that he was delighted to have left the club.
He seemingly could now perform a big U-turn though, and return to West Ham after the arrival of Graham Potter.
I just can’t see it happening though.
