Since his start to life at Bayern Munich, Vincent Kompany has been well received. There were serious questions about his ability to manage Bayern Munich given his young managerial career, but since his appointment nearly the entire front office has been aglow with praise and joy at the football the former Anderlecht coach has brought to the club. Two of Kompany’s most vocal supporters have been Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Uli Hoeneß, likely the two most influential executives in the club’s history.
And, though Kompany understands how important the two are, his focus remains solely on the players at the club: “I received that with a lot of respect. I understand how important these people are,” Kompany said at one point last fall, captured via @iMiaSanMia. “My focus is only on the players. If compliments or criticism come, that’s not a priority in my world.”
Kompany knows that praise only means so much if results do not keep coming. If one basks in the moment of triumph too long at Bayern, one is liable to get flattened. And it seems Kompany understands this.
