Every time I read a report or hear a rumour that Marcus Rashford could join West Ham on loan for the remainder of the season, there’s always a wave of rejection. Comments like “No, move on,” “We can do better,” or “He has a bad attitude” dominate the discussion.
West Ham are in a dire situation with a massive injury crisis affecting our forward line. Michail Antonio and Niklas Füllkrug are both sidelined, likely for the rest of the season. Meanwhile, stand-in striker Jarrod Bowen won’t be available until next month. In such a precarious position, we can’t afford to be picky just because a potential striker isn’t perfect.
The name Evan Ferguson keeps cropping up, but Brighton are unwilling to do business until the end of the transfer window. By then, West Ham could be in even more trouble. Besides, Ferguson is currently injured, and the last thing the Hammers need is another player who can’t hit the ground running.
Whoever we sign in this transfer window needs to be ready to play immediately. Marcus Rashford may not be everyone’s cup of tea, and it’s no secret he’s had his share of problems. Under normal circumstances, I wouldn’t advocate signing him, especially given stories about his disruptive behaviour.
However, short-term problems sometimes require short-term solutions. If West Ham can secure Rashford on loan for the rest of the season, and he solves our immediate striker problem, then why not? Desperate times call for bold decisions.
