Graham Potter’s bizarre London Stadium claim will seriously raise eyebrows amongst West Ham fans

Potter is believed to be close to strengthening his Hammers squad, with a move for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall in the pipeline.

The need to bolster the West Ham squad is a clear and obvious one.

However, there are a lot more factors that will determine whether or not Potter is a success at the London Stadium.

The club has issues from top to bottom that need addressing.

The Hammers head coach has a lot of work to do if he is to help us fulfil our huge potential as a club.

The need for new signings is obvious, but another item on his agenda should be thinking of ways to improve the atmosphere at the London Stadium.

That will be easier said than done.

And that is what makes Potter’s latest claim so bizarre.

The 49-year-old spoke to the media this afternoon, and raved about the London Stadium atmosphere, as quoted by WHUFC.com:

“As an away manager London Stadium is a tough place to come, so we need to build and utilise that connection between the crowd and the players.“

“To do that we have to field a team that the supporters can identify with, and that they believe and trust in. That connection is so important, and though we’re at the early stages of it now, hopefully we can build it through good performances and results.“

That’s simply not true is it.

In fact, the London Stadium has been an incredibly easy place for opposing teams to come and play.

I’m sure Potter knows that as well. However, I’m hoping that the style of football he implements will improve the atmosphere overnight.

The encouraging thing is that he realises the need to get the fans involved in the game. Front-foot football will definitely make a big difference to the noise inside our Stratford home.

If he manages to oversee any kind of improvements whatsoever regarding the atmosphere at the London Stadium, it will be a big bonus.
