Tottenham secured the signing of young goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky from Slavia Prague last week
Tottenham Hotspur have started the January transfer window strongly with the acquisition of highly-rated goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky from Slavia Prague.
Since he arrived at White Hart Lane, the glovesman from the Czech Republic has made a very good impression across the two games he has played for Ange Postecoglou’s side.
After only a couple of training sessions, he was thrown at the deep end by the Spurs boss against Liverpool in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Liverpool at home. The youngster performed exceptionally well on his debut, catching the eye with his composure on the ball and distribution skills whilst keeping an all-important clean sheet against the Premier League leaders.
On Sunday against non-league side Tamworth FC in the FA Cup, Antonin Kinsky had another strong outing in between the sticks and kept his second clean sheet in as many games. The 21-year-old has shown a lot of potential overall, which should delight Ange Postecoglou and the Tottenham fans.
Slavia Prague sporting director Přemysl Kovář has now revealed that Tottenham beat Napoli to Kinsky’s signature. Napoli were keen on signing the goalkeeper and then sending him on loan to Slavia Prague for the remainder of the season. However, Spurs acted swiftly and poached him under Napoli’s noses.
“The priority was to agree on a transfer now in the winter, with Tonda [Kinský] staying on loan until the end of the season,” Přemysl Kovář told Czech Republican outlet Live Sport.
“Napoli came in with the idea of losing their number one in the summer and wanted to secure Tonda, but then Tottenham stepped in and wanted to do it right away. It’s hard to turn down that kind of interest.”
Kovář has expressed his surprise with Tottenham’s approach and stated this when asked how the North Londoners managed to beat the Naples-based outfit to Kinsky’s signature.
“We were a bit surprised at the beginning, but Tottenham’s interest was really big,” he added.
“Their owner Daniel Levy came to negotiate the transfer, so it quickly got to a level where the negotiations were between [Slavia president Jaroslav] Tvrdík and Mr Levy and then it was quite dynamic.
“By the time it was obvious that Tonda was going to leave, Tvrdík and Martin Riha still did a great job and topped the whole transfer off by agreeing an incredible final transfer fee with Tottenham. Thanks to them, it is what it is.”
Big Ange and Solanke have already heaped praises on the Czech Republic goalkeeper for his remarkable debut performance against Liverpool last week. Indeed, Kinsky’s debut was one of the most complete individual performances Spurs fans have witnessed in recent memory.

Huge credit to Daniel Levy for acting swiftly to address the goalkeeping situation by signing Kinsky. As per Slavia Prague’s sporting director, Kinsky was off to Napoli but Levy did well to topple the Serie A side and bring the hugely talented glovesman to North London. Also, plaudits to the recruitment team who not only secured a player with a huge ceiling but did so at a bargain price.
