Former Arsenal and Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Čech insists that Chelsea were looking at potentially pursuing a move for Tottenham Hotspur’s young Czech goalkeeper (and latest signing) Antonin Kinsky.
Kinsky moved to White Hart Lane in a surprise transfer from Slavia Prague for Tottenham when Kinsky joined and has already helped Spurs reach the semifinals of the Carabao Cup last week and followed it up with another clean sheet, this time against lower league opponents Tamworth.
Tottenham’s first choice, Guglielmo Vicario, has been serving the sidelines with an extended ankle injury, and with Kinsky putting in such impressive performances, he can now establish himself as a key long-term prospect at Hotspur Way.
Chelsea were scouting Kinsky
Cech reveals that the Blues scouted Kinsky as a 16-year-old playing for the Czech national youth team while the goalkeeper was Chelsea’s technical director. And he went on to display all the technical abilities and tactical awareness to be a top division player, the former Chelsea and Arsenal goalkeeper insists (via. The Telegraph):
“I remember the moment when Antonín Kinsky was still playing for the national, team at under-16. A game when we watched him and when we scouted him for our own club [Chelsea]. You could see that he was strong, with his legs, you could see that he had a good starting position and he was actually helping the team at the back to launch attacks.”
The comparisons between a Kinsky and a Čech are unavoidable due to nationality, but Čech noted that his countryman must carve out his own destiny at Tottenham.
“Of course, he comes from Czechia and that comparison will always be there. But I think it’s important that he makes his own way. Radek Cerny already made a good impression at Tottenham.”
However, Kinsky’s strong performances in the Premier League will hopefully continue, and the North Londoners will hope to see him improve further as he experiences more of it.
