New signing Antonin Kinsky has made a positive impression at Tottenham
Tottenham Hotspur will be aware that they need reinforcements in this transfer window to recover from a poor first half of the season.
The North Londoners have started the winter transfer window well by acquiring the services of highly-rated goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky from Slavia Prague. The youngster has had quite a baptism of fire in English football having played Premier League leaders Liverpool in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final on his debut followed by a real fight against non-league side Tamworth FC in the FA Cup third round.
Antonin Kinsky has caught the eye with his composure on the ball and distribution skills across two Spurs outings, keeping clean sheets in both of them. The Czech Republic under-21 international’s start to life in North London has been so good that he looks to have usurped Fraser Forster as the club’s No.2.

However, there is also a fair chance that Kinsky could push No.1 Guglielmo Vicario for a spot in Ange Postecoglou’s side after he returns from injury and, ex-Spurs scout Bryan King expects the Australian tactician to hold talks with Guglielmo Vicario as a result.
“Vicario is the first-team goalkeeper,” Bryan King exclusively told Tottenham News.
“Therefore, once he is fit, he will be expecting to get back into the team. However, it will be interesting now to see how Kinsky performs over the coming weeks because it would be good to give Vicario a push.
“Tottenham will now say to Vicario, ‘Look, you’re going to have to work to get yourself back into the team because the player we have just signed is doing really well.’ It is always good to have competition, especially between the sticks.”
Tottenham lost Vicario for the long-term after the goalkeeper underwent ankle surgery in November. The Italy international suffered an ankle fracture during Spurs’ 4-0 rout of Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League, and he is not expected to return until late February.
Before his injury, the 28-year-old was performing well this season and growing more as a leader. Vicario has been Tottenham’s undisputed No.1 under Postecoglou, so the Italian may be under the impression that he will walk straight back into the starting XI once he fully recovers from the injury.
However, now that Spurs have a new goalkeeper in Kinsky, who has given all the right signs so early in his North London career, it looks as though Vicario has a real fight on his hands to reclaim his spot. Therefore, the Prague-born glovesman cannot rest on his laurels and continue putting in consistent displays to convince Big Ange that he deserves to be the club’s first-choice goalkeeper.
