Tottenham seem to have rediscovered their lost form and are on the right path to turn their season around. They have started the year well, winning the first leg against Liverpool and beating Tamworth in both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup. Ange Postecoglou seems to be developing a good relationship with one of Tottenham’s players he had wanted to sell during the summer.
Before Spurs’ FA Cup clash with Tamworth over the weekend, Postecoglou shared a humorous moment with the player. Facing an extensive injury crisis, the Australian manager has had to reintegrate players previously sidelined, with this particular player benefiting greatly. Reporters now believe that Djed Spence and Postecoglou are building a strong bond—a remarkable shift from Spence’s near exit during the summer.
Djed Spence and Ange Postecoglou are forging a strong bond
Djed Spence has thrived since getting his chance with Tottenham in the aftermath of their injury crisis. Returning from a six-month loan at Genoa, the right-back has made his mark playing under Ange Postecoglou, with his performances commended by all critics.
Before Tottenham’s match against Tamworth, journalist Alasdair Gold revealed a lighthearted exchange between Spence and Postecoglou. Spence arrived at The Lamb Ground wearing sunglasses and a woolly hat, which amused his manager. Despite not typically engaging in small talk, Postecoglou shared a rare moment of humour, joking about Spence’s headwear and eliciting laughter from the defender—a notable departure from the manager’s usual demeanour.
Tottenham journo, Alasdair Gold speaking on YouTube
“We know Postecoglou doesn’t do small talk but there was a funny moment when it was him and a couple of the players, Djed Spence was one of them.
“Djed was standing there and he was there with sunglasses on and this big woolly hat, sat high up on his head but Ange was just a bit obsessed with it and he kept looking and laughing. He said something to Spence which made him laugh and it was so ‘un-Ange-like’.
“You see him say the odd thing to players but this was quite unusual, but who knows maybe there is an Ange-Djed relationship forming.”

During a challenging moment against Bournemouth, when Ange was receiving a tough time from the away fans, it was Djed Spence who stepped in, offering support by putting an arm around him.
This gesture may have been the foundation of a bond between Spence and Postecoglou. Now, with Spence starting every week under Ange’s guidance, he has been delivering terrific performances.
