Tottenham were extremely poor in the 2-1 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium
Tottenham Hotspur fell short in the North London derby on Wednesday evening as Arsenal prevailed 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League.
Son Heung-min gave Spurs the lead in the 25th minute, volleying home from just outside the box via a slight William Saliba deflection. However, Arsenal levelled matters in the 40th minute when a Gabriel Magalhaes header from a corner went in off Dominic Solanke. And four minutes later, Leandro Trossard put the home side 2-1 up, rifling home a left-footed shot that Antonin Kinsky should have kept out.
Ange Postecoglou’s side offered very little in the second half, and had it not been for the Gunners’ glut of missed chances, the scoreline would have been emphatic. Their defence looked all over the place from the onset, with players making mistakes on and off the ball and trying too hard to play out from the back including the goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky.
The Spurs boss faced the media after the game in midweek. When asked about his thoughts on the game, the Australian expressed his disappointment with his team’s overall performance in the North London derby. He stated the performance was “not good enough” as his boys allowed Arsenal to dictate the tempo and control things from the onset.
“Not good enough, especially the first half. Way too passive, allowed Arsenal to take control of the game. Really disappointed with the way we, both with and without the ball, allowed them to dictate the tempo and paid a price for it. The second half was a little bit better but nowhere near good enough,” Ange Postecoglou told Football London.
Tottenham losing to Arsenal was their 11th defeat of the Premier League season. Big Ange’s side are now 13th in the table and in a crisis mode. Regardless of the injury situation, the performance levels and results have been incredibly poor for months now, especially in the Premier League.

They have won just once in nine league games, which is not good enough and will get any manager sacked in the world. Our players were just not up for the fight in the local derby against an Arsenal side that was not at their peak in confidence levels and had come into the game off the back of cup defeats to Newcastle United and Manchester United.

Big Ange also has a lot of blame to take for another spineless display, and after the latest defeat, the Greek-Aussie boss’s position at White Hart Lane is untenable.
