Graham Potter has made an instant impact at West Ham United, since coming into the club to replace Julen Lopetegui last week.
West Ham finally decided to part ways with Julen Lopetegui eight days ago after a disastrous first half of the 2024/25 season.
Graham Potter was the man tasked with cleaning up the mess left behind by the Spaniard at the London Stadium.
Players including the likes of Andy Irving have already commented on how much more positive the place has been over the past week.
The difference has been clear to see with the quality of the two performances overseen by Potter so far.
The intensity and cohesion of the way in which the players have been pressing has been really great to see.
And they seem to be playing with smiles on their faces now, like a grey cloud hanging over their heads has lifted.
Potter has obviously given everyone a big lift, and now it seems like he could try to keep one heavily exit-linked player at the London Stadium.
Graham Potter wants to keep West Ham man Lopetegui tried to sell
The key to Potter achieving instant success this season will be getting a few new signings through the door.
However, equally as important will be moving on some of the deadwood.
There are far too many players who are just not contributing as much as they should be.
That said, one of those players is said to be admired by Potter.
Guido Rodriguez was brought to the London Stadium by Lopetegui on a free transfer in the summer.
However, the Spaniard clearly wasn’t overly impressed with the 30-year-old, and apparently made it clear to the Hammers board that he wanted to sell him.
Now though, TyC Sports journalist Juan Cortese has told MDZ that Potter views the former Real Betis man as a key player.
That really does seem rather strange to me – he’s been really poor for us this season.
In fairness to Rodriguez, moving from La Liga to the Premier League at the age of 30 was always going to be a huge challenge, and so it has proven to be.
Still there is no room for sentiment in elite level sport, and I strongly believe the Argentina international doesn’t possess the physical capabilities needed to succeed in the English game.
However, If Graham Potter sees something in the West Ham midfielder, then I’m more than willing to give him some more time to prove me wrong.
