Arsenal completed their double over arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates Stadium yesterday, and former striker who represented both clubs, Emmanuel Adebayor, was left surprised by the Gunners controversial equaliser.
The Lilywhites laid the first punch as they took the lead with Heung Min Son’s volley that made its way past David Raya owing to a deflection from Thomas Partey. However, Mikel Arteta’s men fought back to convert a one-goal trail into a win with goals via Gabriel Maghalaes and Leandro Trossard, inspiring the Gunners to three points and bragging rights as Martin Odegaard & Co. paint the town red.
Adebayor speaks up!
Arsenal’s first goal came from a dead ball situation yet again when a long fizzed corner from Declan Rice was met by a running Gabriel on the far post to head it into Solanke and eventually into the net. It was one of those crosses that is too difficult to defend, and all credit to the hosts and their set piece coach for such routines.
And Adebayor expressed his amazement at how Arsenal manages to put in such balls that are almost met by their players every time. The former striker was full of praise, saying [via Super Sport as relayed by Tottenham News]:
“I think you have to give credit to those taking the set pieces.
“When the Arsenal players go for the first ball, you can see that they’re definitely going to get to the first ball, and you can tell that it is something that they have worked on.
