Tottenham have been linked with a January swoop for Palmeiras star Richard Rios
Tottenham Hotspur have been in utter mess for the majority part of the 2024/25 season, especially due to an unprecedented injury crisis.
The persistent injury problems have gone a long way in hampering the team’s progress in Ange Postecoglou’s second season in North London. The defeat in the North London derby vs Arsenal on Wednesday was their 11th of the Premier League season in 21 games, leaving the Lilywhites in the bottom half of the table.
The Spurs chiefs are now at a point where they essentially need to back Ange Postecoglou in this ongoing January transfer window or use that money to hire a new boss. On the whole, it appears as if the Australian tactician still has the support of chairman Daniel Levy, given that he has proven how well his Tottenham team can perform when the majority of his players are fit.

As per reliable journalist Alasdair Gold, Spurs are understood to be eyeing three more signings after adding goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky to Postecoglou’s roster at the start of the month. In addition to a central defender and forward, bringing in a midfielder could also be on the cards.
Palmeiras midfielder Richard Rios has been subject to links with Spurs in recent times. It was reported earlier this week that Tottenham had a bid turned down for the midfielder by Palmeiras at the start of the New Year.
Now, according to a report from Colombian outlet Caracol Radio, Palmeiras are open to negotiations for Richard Rios for a starting bid of $20 million. Spurs, however, aren’t the only English club interested in his services; they face competition from Nottingham Forest and Everton.
Rios, who has a €100 million release clause in his contract until December 2028, has been starring for Palmeiras since rising in prominence in the 2024 Copa America. The Colombian international has racked up 103 appearances thus far for the Brazilian giants, chipping in with seven goals and six assists.

The 24-year-old’s progress has not gone unnoticed, with Tottenham keen to sign him this month. A tenacious, tough-tackling and ball-carrying midfielder, Rios would improve Big Ange’s midfield unit. He would be an upgrade over the hugely inconsistent Yves Bissouma, who was at fault for Tottenham’s second goal against Arsenal in midweek, whilst adding competition within the Australian tactician’s roster.
