Max Eberl is having a busy January. A bevy of Bayern Munich stars, from Joshua Kimmich to Leroy Sané to Alphonso Davies, are in the last six months of their contracts, meaning it is crunch time for negotiations. Meanwhile, talks are ongoing with Jamal Musiala as well, a young superstar the club simply has to secure. And then there is the status of aging veterans Thomas Müller and Manuel Neuer, both team captains.
If all that was not enough, pundits and former club players are busy chirping in the media, too — including Lothar Matthäus, who has suggested that Bayern elevate Kimmich above Müller and current lead captain Neuer as a contract incentive.
Eberl, for his part, has been magnanimous.
“Lothar always has creative suggestions,” Eberl said in response, in comments captured via @iMiaSanMia. “We’re thankful that so many people are thinking about our contract talks. I’ve often said that our talks are extremely respectful and we discuss everything between us.”
So…keep it coming, Lothar?
