The January transfer window will be a vitally important one for West Ham United.
Graham Potter has already taken huge strides at West Ham, and has made a major impact after just eight days in charge.
However, if he is to really succeed, he needs to sign a bare minimum of two top-class players in the January transfer window.
Potter has really impressed already at the London Stadium, and the fact that he changed things midway through the first-half against Fulham was so refreshing to see.
His positivity has been like a breath of fresh air, and I really feel like the players have already benefitted from that.
However, his West Ham tenure will be defined in the end by his success during the next few transfer windows.
The current one is hugely important for Potter and the Hammers.
But our latest plan is concerning to me, I must say.
West Ham approach to transfers in the January window
I fully expect there to be no messing around this winter.
Our needs are obvious for everyone to see.
If Potter gets the signings of a striker and a ball-carrying midfielder over the line before the end of the month, we’ll be in a really good place.
However, the latest news regarding the Hammers’ January window plans is slightly concerning to say the least.
The West Ham owners could take a strange approach to their January transfer business it seems.
talkSPORT have mooted the possibility of West Ham targeting players who have struggled at other clubs, much like when we brought in Jesse Lingard on loan in January 2021.
I presume they are talking about players like Marcus Rashford.
Now, this is a hugely risky strategy.
Players such as Lingard and Rashford are obviously incredibly talented, but there’s a reason why they have both been jettisoned from their clubs at different times.
I highly doubt that Graham Potter will be taking a risk in the January transfer window by bringing someone with a questionable attitude to West Ham.
We need to be signing young and hungry stars to take us to the next level.
Potter should be looking at a striker like Jonathan David and a powerful, box-to-box central midfielder like Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall if he is to take us to the next level.
Let’s hope West Ham don’t end up signing another club’s cast-offs in the January transfer window.
