Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou is under pressure after North London Derby defeat vs Arsenal
Tottenham Hotspur suffered a 2-1 defeat to Arsenal in the North London derby on Wednesday, stretching their winless run to five Premier League games. And after Manchester United came from a goal down to beat basement club Southampton 3-1 at Old Trafford on Thursday, Spurs have slipped to 14th in the table.
It was the Lilywhites’ 11th loss of the Premier League campaign, sitting just eight points clear of relegation after 21 games of the season—and European football is looking all but a distant dream for next term at this current juncture. Ange Postecoglou and Co. are in a very low position in the league and the performances have not been good enough for a long time now.
A huge injury crisis has not helped matters, impacting negatively on the North London side’s campaign. This can be considered in Ange Postecoglou’s defence, where he has been forced to rely on young midfielder Archie Gray at centre-back alongside Radu Dragusin. However, having taken just one point in the last five Premier League games, the pressure is now firmly on the Australian tactician.

Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit thinks Spurs will sack Postecoglou after an underwhelming season and his team’s latest defeat in the North London derby. Speaking after Spurs’ 2-1 defeat to Arsenal, the Frenchman has suggested that the 59-year-old could be facing the chop after what he has witnessed.
“I was watching Ange Postecoglou and he must be feeling really alone on the pitch tonight. “I think things are probably coming to the end for him. I think that something has to change,” Petit told talkSPORT.
“We can see the league, we can see the faces of the players tonight on the pitch and they look so miserable, nobody looks like themselves.
“As I said, I think something has to change at Spurs so I think he will get the sack.”

It is safe to say that the majority of the White Hart Lane faithful won’t be happy with the team’s performances at the moment. Big Ange has an extensive injury list in his defence, yet a club of Spurs’ stature simply cannot drop to 14th in the table, a mere eight points above the dreaded drop zone.

This makes the Everton game at Goodison Park on Sunday ever so important. Anything other than three points for Tottenham would make Big Ange’s position at N17 untenable.
