Wolfsburg came into the match against Bayern Munich having scored at least 4 goals in 3 of their past 7 matches, including a (glorious) 5-1 battering of Lawn Ball Sport Leipzig. Ergo, Bayern knew that their opponents were dangerous, which was proven by the visitors grabbing two goals and making the Bavarians sweat for the last few minutes of the match. However, Bayern also created plenty of opportunities at the other end only to squander them in the end.
It is for this reason that Kimmich is more critical of the forwards than the defenders on the day:
“I thought we defended well, but the opponent has a certain quality and you can always concede,” Kimmich opined (via @iMiaSanMia). “On the other hand we created many chances and should be doing better when it comes to taking our chances.”
The issue of taking chances is one that has repeatedly cropped up for Bayern. Eventually, it will need to be addressed or the issues start growing from a nervy last 10 minutes to actually dropping crucial points.
