David Moyes speaks after the Premier League match between Everton and Tottenham Hotspur
David Moyes said his Everton side “looked a different outfit” as he heaped praise on his players following the 3-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur.
The Blues overpowered Spurs as they raced into a three goal lead at the break before surviving a late comeback. For Moyes, securing his first victory since his return to the club was the priority.
But he took great pleasure from the emphatic nature of the performance until two goals in the final 15 minutes offered the visitors hope of snatching a point that would have flattered them.

Speaking after the game, Moyes said: “I’m just really pleased we could give everybody something to shout about. We nearly weren’t going home happy but we played ever so well in the first half, we scored three and maybe could have scored another couple, we had a couple of big opportunities and the keeper saved one onto the post. I thought the first half performance was excellent.
“The aim was to go and get the fourth goal, we said ‘let’s go and get the fourth and make sure there is nothing at risk’, because I think if Tottenham had got a goal then with the ability Tottenham have got and their attacking players, you are always going to be under pressure.
“I think Dom [Calvert-Lewin] had a chance to make it four but he played very well today and it ended up a really good victory for us.”
Calvert-Lewin was one of several players, including Iliman Ndiaye and Jesper Lindstrom, to receive Moyes’ plaudits. The striker opened the scoring with a clever finish that ended a goal drought that dated back to September. Ndiaye later rifled past Antonin Kinsky to double the home side’s lead before an Archie Gray own goal made it three on the cusp of half time.
Moyes, pleased with the attacking intent of a team that had scored just 15 times in the league before this match, said: “I thought the goals were very good and I thought Jesper did well, he put in a great cross for the third… it was a really good bit of play for the second goal to play through and Ili got his chance to score.
“Overall I am really pleased with the three points. It wouldn’t have mattered how we had played today to be honest, as long as we won. That was the big thing for me. “
He added: “I thought the whole team looked a different outfit today, they played very well, they passed it well when they got the right opportunities.”
