The winter transfer window for Bayern Munich is being focused on sorting out the contract situations of Jamal Musiala, Joshua Kimmich, and Alphonso Davies, but there is still planning for the summer window that is taking place. The summer window could see a slew of activity for the Rekordmeister both in terms of outbound and inbound business.
Last month, it had been reported that Bayern was interested in making a move this summer for Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens, and per new information from SportBild’s Christian Falk (via @iMiaSanMia_GER), Bayern has contacted the player’s representatives. The winger’s current contract at Dortmund runs through June 2028, but Bayern would seriously consider a move for him in the event they decide not to offer Leroy Sané a contract extension. Sané’s contract is set to expire this summer and it is unclear at this point whether or not the club has plans of offering him a renewal — a lot could hinge on how he performs the rest of this season.
The Athletic’s Seb Stafford-Bloor (via @iMiaSanMia), has also added the thought that Bayern has to consider the fact that fellow wingers Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry are entering their latter stages of their time at the club. Regardless of what happens with Sané, there is still a need to add talent at the wing position and Gittens fits the profile that Bayern is looking for.
Stafford-Bloor also reported that Bayern did not answer the question when they were asked about their interest in Gittens, but when Dortmund was asked, they maintained the stance that he is not going to be up for sale this summer. So far this season, the pacey winger has tallied 11 goals and 5 assists from 25 appearances across all competitions, including a goal in the 1-1 draw against Bayern earlier in the season.
Per Transfermarkt, Gittens’ market value is currently around 50 million euros and it does not contain a release clause, so it would take a considerable fee from Bayern to pique Dortmund’s interest and get them to decide them to change their minds. The wage structure at Bayern will also hinge heavily on the Musiala, Kimmich, and Davies deals, assuming all three of those players wind up signing new deals and Gittens would likely demand more than the three million euros per year he is currently earning at Dortmund.
