Tottenham Hotspur skipper Son Heung-Min has been subject to links with a probable White Hart Lane exit despite the fact that the South Korean’s deal at N17 was extended for a further year.
The ageing forward has been an integral part of the roster at Spurs since he moved from Bayern Leverkusen; however, he hasn’t been able to replicate his potential in the ongoing campaign, and that has left his future at Hotspur Way a bit blurrier than supporters would like.
Is Son a problem at N17?
And Graeme Souness thinks that such underwhelming performances will get Ange Postecoglou sacked. The Scot legend goes on to suggest that the North Londoners skipper has had his best days behind him already.
The Australian head coach is facing calls to be sacked following his successive defeats in the North London derby and against Everton. And Souness thinks that continuing with good players and not great ones in the squad that couldn’t provide consistent output will ultimately lead to the former Celtic manager getting sacked by Levy.
Writing in his column for Daily Mail (via. Tottenham News), Souness noted:
“Ultimately, his squad has good players but not great ones. Worryingly, the evidence suggests Son Heung-min’s best days may be behind him. They play in a fashion where if they come up against the better teams, they will invariably get beaten.
“At times, they will have to find a more pragmatic approach against the best teams, or Ange will pay the price.”
Injury and consistency problems…
There is no denying that the Lilywhites are facing an injury crisis at the moment, and they are having problems defensively as well as offensively, but things are not in place at Hotspur Way at the moment, and cracks have started to appear in the sequences.
That being said, Tottenham has still managed to get to winning ways over the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool, and Manchester United this season; however, they then go on to drop shoulders against other sides, showing that massive variance of consistency.
But benching a player like Son will be a big call, and it is to be seen if Ange does go on to follow what Souness suggests.
