Tottenham Hotspur faced another defeat in the English top tier as Everton got the better of Ange Postecoglou’s side on a 3-2 scoreline on Sunday, with former Leicester City maestro James Maddison putting in a lacklustre display that has put him under the limelight, given he now faces criticisms from the supporters, pundits, and even the now England manager Thomas Tuchel, who was also among the audience at Goodison Park earlier today.
The full-time whistle at Merseyside today showed glimpses of a team that generally leads to the manager being sacked as the pressure continues to grow on the Australian head coach. And as Ange faces the pressure from the supporters, Maddison has problems of his own.
Maddison fails to impress
The England international was starting his first Premier League game in five matches, and he failed to seize the opportunity to grab his spot by both hands as England boss Thomas Tuchel looked on. And ex-Spurs scout Bryan King insists that the 28-year-old did not impose himself enough against David Moves’s side as he gives an opinion on what was a disappointing performance from a squad veteran.
King goes on to insist that Maddison’s recent form will place him down the pecking order behind other midfielders in the race for England spots under Tuchel.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, King said:
“Tuchel was present at Goodison Park. He wouldn’t have been impressed by Maddison’s performance. In terms of England midfielders, he is well down the pecking order.
“Tuchel wouldn’t have been impressed at all because Maddison didn’t impose himself on the game. For what he has done in football, he should have been competing much more with Everton.”

What now?
With failure to impress the former Chelsea boss with his performance, Maddison will now face an uphill battle to secure a regular place in the Three Lions setup as the Lilywhites supporters continue to highlight the 28-year-old’s form and broader issues that the club is facing under Ange.
