Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou had no answers for the critics as the North London club slipped to 15th place in the Premier League and hit new lows. Much of the blame will be placed on the ongoing injury crisis, but that cannot take away from Ange’s role in this situation. The Australian coach can only wonder where it all went wrong as Tottenham suffered their 12th league defeat in a dismal performance against Everton.
Ange’s second season in charge has been nothing but disappointing, and this week only heightened the pressure on the Australian. The week began with a disappointing 2-1 loss to North London rivals Arsenal, where the team’s performance lacked the intensity and precision expected. Having little time to regroup, Spurs then faced the challenge of travelling to Goodison Park, where relegation-battling Everton awaited. Yet again, they proved to be the weaker side. All eyes have been glued onto Ange with constant speculation that he is on the chopping block.
Big Ange reacts to yet another disappointment
Ange Postecoglou was disappointed after the game, speaking to Sky Sports. He explained that Tottenham failed to get into the game in the first half, and Everton took the advantage. This put Spurs on the back foot, and it was a mountain to climb, although the players fought hard to get back into it but fell short.
“Obviously first half we really struggled within the game, gave ourselves a mountain to climb. The players tried to claw the game back in the second half but just fell short. We couldn’t really take control of the game. We struggled to gain any traction with the ball, without the ball. We had some chances also where we probably should have capitalised early on. But in the end, it wasn’t enough.”
Tottenham never actually controlled a match with the ball, Postecoglou admitted, while out of possession Everton took the opportunities in space behind them that it afforded them. With their first chances came a couple of clear ones before they couldn’t turn early into three points for victory.
He also spoke about the team’s issues, claiming that they only had 11 fit players who could start the game. Everton capitalized on Tottenham’s lack of organization and paid the price. Postecoglou pointed out Radu Dragusin’s injury, saying he had to leave the pitch because of a deep cut which will further be a huge distress for the Lilywhites.
In the second half, Tottenham had more of the game and started strongly. According to Postecoglou, Richarlison made a difference with his presence, while Mikey Moore offered something different on the left.

What was once an optimistic tenure for Ange Postecoglou is now under intense scrutiny, with many fans wondering if his tactical approach can lead to real success in the Premier League.
