Tottenham Hotspur have been vying for a move for Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz given the need for depth and quality in the middle of the park as Ange Postecoglou looks for reinforcements to kickstart the Lilywhites campaign after a disappointing first half of the 2024/25 season.
The North Londoners failed to replace Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Gio Lo Celso following their exits in the summer transfer window, and the lack of depth left them susceptible, especially given the number of injuries that Tottenham has faced this season.
Now as pressure continues to mount on the Australian head coach, he looks to change his fortunes by buying players.
Tottenham & City to go head to head for Luiz?
Tottenham have been linked with a move for former Aston Villa midfielder Luiz, who has been struggling to put together the performances that earned him the move to the Turin-based club. And he has been linked with a possible Juventus exit as Thiago Motta remains open to a loan deal for the Brazilian national.
The Premiership regulars would know the quality that Luiz possesses following his antics at Villa Park and the fact that he has been a nightmare to deal with for the majority of the elite sides in the league. And adding him would definitely take Ange Postecoglou’s midfield a long way.
However, what will come as a blow to the Lilywhites pursuit of the 26-year-old, the North Londoners Premier League rivals Manchester City have entered the race to attain his signatures, per transfer correspondent Graeme Bailey of TBR Football.
