They may be having a terrible time on the pitch, but if there’s one thing Tottenham have been consistently good at this season and the one before, it’s signing young players.
However, one of their long-time targets may escape their net if they don’t make a move quickly.
Man United targetting Patrick Dorgu, but Tottenham still have a chance
As reported by TBR Football, Man United are considering making a move for Lecce left-fullback Patrick Dorgu, though Tottenham may yet be able to swoop in.
The Gareth Bale–likened Denmark international has been linked with the Lilywhites for months now, though United’s desperation may see the Red Devils send in an acceptable offer ahead of them, with the Salentini reportedly willing to accept a bid under £30 million.
Both of Man United’s first-choice left-fullbacks, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, and injury-prone and linked with moves away from Old Trafford. Moreover, Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 setup makes Dorgu someone who’d fit right away on the left flank.
This season, the 20-year-old has three goals and an assist from 20 Serie A appearances, with a contract running until the end of the 2028/29 season.
TTLB Opinion
Despite their current disastrous circumstances, Man United under the INEOS ownership have shown a particular swiftness in getting transfers done.
Reports have indicated they may be reluctant to bring in signings this month, but left-fullback is a position they need proper reinforcement in, not too different from how Tottenham need centre-backs, and so their desperation may see them pay extra and up front to beat Dorgu’s other suitors.
If Spurs are to have any say at this point, they may have to go against the grain to ensure one of their direct rivals is left reeling.
