It took a while, but Ange Postecoglou finally had Archie Gray playing in the middle of the park, a position that the teenager prefers, and the former Leeds man would be glad to return to his familiar role despite the Lilywhites suffering from a 3-2 defeat against Everton at Goodison Park in the Premier League.
Irrespective of the loss, Gray would have been delighted and would have been looking forward to operating in his preferred role for the second half of the season after playing as a makeshift centre back for the majority of the campaign.
Time for Tottenham to bag on Skriniar?
There have been reports about Spurs looking at a possible move for veteran centre-back Milan Skriniar as Daniel Levy looks to buy his way out of the current defensive crisis at White Hart Lane. And when there have been claims that it’s too late to do so, John Wenham, owner of the North Londoners-reputed podcast Lilywhites Rose, insists that Gray’s move into his preferred midfield role opens the door for Tottenham to sign Skriniar.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, Wenham said:
“I get the impression that this is going to go right until the end of the window. Clubs are likely to wait around to see what kind of deal they can get. Ben Davies is back, and he played in defence against Everton. Gray had been doing okay at centre-back.
“However, he started in midfield at Goodison Park. Therefore, it would make sense now for Spurs to sign Škriniar and play him alongside Radu Drăgușin.”
The Lilywhites have been without Cristian Romero and van de Ven at N17, with the Lilywhites having to play makeshift solution in Archie Gray at the heart of defence alongside Radu Drăgușin. While they have done a decent job, Tottenham do need immediate reinforcements in central defence. And by the looks of it, Milan Skriniar could be the player arriving through the doors at White Hart Lane.
