Tottenham recall academy striker Dane Scarlett on loan from Oxford United
Tottenham Hotspur currently find themselves in 15th place in the Premier League table with just 24 points after 22 matches. Having won only seven games and suffered 12 defeats, the Lilywhites are witnessing one of its worst seasons in recent history.
The latest setback came in a 3-2 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park. Despite late strikes from Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison, Ange Postecoglou’s men were unable to recover from a woeful first half that saw Everton score three times. Had it not been for young goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky, the Toffees could have been out of sight in the first 45 minutes itself.
The defeat has intensified pressure on Ange Postecoglou, who has lost five of the last six Premier League games. While there have been calls for his sacking from certain sections of the fanbase and the media, the Hotspur Way chiefs are sticking with the Australian and plan to back him in this transfer window.
The injury crisis at White Hart Lane had Postecoglou urging the club for reinforcements, admitting the players require help after the defeat at Goodison Park. Amid speculation surrounding the coach’s future, Tottenham have recalled academy starlet Dane Scarlett from his loan at Oxford United.
Dane Scarlett joined Championship side Oxford United on loan in August and made 22 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals and providing one assist. However, he could only manage seven starts in the Championship, which proved to be the factor for Tottenham to cancel the academy talent’s loan spell at Oxford.
According to reliable Football London journalist Alasdair Gold, Spurs are now weighing up a change of scenery for Scarlett. He adds that the club are keen on finding another loan for the striker before the transfer deadline.

The 20-year-old’s loan at Oxford was the third of his career, having previously spent time at Portsmouth in League One and also Ipswich Town in the Championship last season. Tottenham may want to send the England under-21 international to a team at a higher level than Oxford, hoping he gets regular minutes at a more competitive level.
