Ange Postecoglou is under massive pressure given how his Tottenham Hotspur are ensconced in a difficult Premier League campaign where they are placed 15th in the table, and given their underwhelming performances this season, there are reports suggesting that vice captain Cristian Romero is ‘open to leaving’ White Hart Lane when the summer transfer window comes around, per The Daily Mail.
Romero has struggled this season
Romero has been subject to links with a move to Real Madrid in the previous summer window; however, no move materialised as Daniel Levy stayed put to keep hold of the Argentine World Cup winner. Though that being said, the former Atalanta defender on his part hasn’t been able to replicate his performances this season and has struggled on multiple fronts.
Romero has been sidelined with four separate injuries in the ongoing campaign that has caused him to miss 29 games so far this season. And even when he was playing regularly, the Argentine was continually getting caught out at the back, with multiple of his errors leading to critical goals.
With Madrid expressing interest in landing the 26-year-old, complemented by how his contract ends in 2027 and the defender is reluctant to commit to further terms at Hotspur Way, it is ideal for Tottenham to sell him when the summer window comes around.
Romero is said to prefer a move to Santiago Bernabeu, where he can not only earn more than his current contract at N17 but also have more opportunities to directly compete with silverware.
