Chelsea don’t want a stop gap signing as they look for a new striker to compete with Nicolas Jackson according to journalist Matt Law.
The January window is into the final two weeks and this is usually the stage where things start to gather pace in regards to transfers.
Chelsea haven’t been as busy as was initially expected and they have recalled both Trevoh Chalobah and Aaron Anselmino for defensive cover after injuries to Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile.

The Blues have agreed one deal, with Mamadou Sarr set to join from Strasbourg in the summer for €15m, whilst they have been unable to move any players on as of yet.
It’s no secret Chelsea are looking for a striker, with Jackson the only option at the moment as Christopher Nkunku has failed to deliver, whilst Marc Guiu is just 18 and not ready for regular Premier League minutes.
Chelsea have been linked with Liam Delap, whilst they are also said to have joined the race for RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.
It seems a forward will likely have to leave in order to make space with Nkunku and Joao Felix the most likely candidates for departure.
The Blues were linked with a move for Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic and Law has provided an update on that and what type of signing Chelsea want.
“I struggle to see an out-and-out striker in January,” he told The London is Blue Podcast.
“Chelsea do not want to sign a stop-gap so we can rule out Dusan Vlahovic, I have received no encouragement that he is a target.”
It feels as if a striker arriving this month is becoming increasingly unlikely, but with Jackson scoreless in his last six games a lack of an alternative is hurting the Blues.
If Chelsea don’t bring a forward in this month it feels like they will be taking a gamble when it comes to qualifying for the Champions League, which they desperately need to achieve this season.
