It was no secret, Bayern Munich was supposed to go Amsterdam and take down Feyenoord with relative ease in the Champions League.
That…is not what happened.
The home side battered Bayern Munich 3-0 and saw star forward Santiago Giménez pocket a brace against the powerful Germans. Clearly, Feyenoord did not get the memo about how things were supposed to play out.
“I’m really happy. Nobody expected us to win, which makes us even happier. I think these surprises are the most important thing in football, especially on nights like this. We know Bayern are a great team. But in the end, our counterattacks worked perfectly and we were able to score goals at the right moment,” said Giménez via FCBayern.com.
As Giménez stated, another team planned to take advantage of Bayern Munich’s weaknesses in dealing with good counterattacks. Feyenoord found a sweet spot in how to beat the Bavarians and made the most of it.
On a European night, it does not get much better than that.
