Ange Postecoglou is short on players owing to the injury crisis his team going through.
The man from Down Under needs help, as he’s now come out and asked for it ahead of his side’s next game.
Ange Postecoglou asks Daniel Levy for “help” ahead of Leicester game
Speaking ahead of his side’s next game against relegation-threatened Leicester City, Ange Postecoglou issued an indirect plea to his chairman Daniel Levy, addressing the need for reinforcement in his ranks.
“There’s still no doubt we need to help these players. We’ve still got some significant games before we get these [injured] players back.”
Postecoglou on the need for reinforcement, as quoted by The Standard.
Even the players considered “fit” look on the risky side of things. Archie Gray and Radu Dragusin were recently seen clutching their hamstrings in recent days, with Dominic Solanke the latest first-teamer confirmed for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Both Spurs and Leicester, currently ten points apart in the Premier League table, come into this game on the back of a horrid run. The Foxes haven’t won a game since beating West Ham in their first game of December, while the Lilywhites are winless since December as well, having last beaten set-for-relegation Southampton mid-December.
TTLB Opinion
We have made our feelings clear on whether Postecoglou should be continuing at the club long term—he should not.
Nevertheless, Spurs do need players not just for now but in the long term as well. Getting some short-term deals done will help the club get through this season.
Postecoglou has been talking about injuries as well, and how they have almost singlehandedly hampered his campaign. We need to debunk this narrative somewhat. Spurs’ defensive issues were popping up well before the first-choice players started dropping like flies, and most of these injuries themselves are muscular in nature, a direct result of the head coach’s training regimen which is exacerbating the issue.
In terms of medical challenges, Spurs are going to have to do a lot more than just replace Postecoglou, for the injuries may have been worsened with him at the helm, but they were already a challenged well before he arrived.
