David Seaman has been speaking with Everton goalkeeper Asmir Begovic ahead of the game against Brighton & Hove Albion at the weekend.
On the Seaman Says podcast, sponsored by Betway, Begovic says that positivity in the Everton camp is much higher now after the arrival of David Moyes and the win 3-2 win against Tottenham Hotspur.
Should this worry Albion fans? Hopefully not. Spurs are a total shambles at the moment, to the point they would probably lose to Dog & Duck FC of Sussex Sunday League Division Five. It is no great achievement to beat Tottenham.
More concerning for Brighton will be their own poor home record against the Toffees. The Seagulls have taken just one point from their past three Amex matches hosting Everton.
That dreadful run of form includes an unforgettable 5-1 defeat inflicted on Roberto De Zerbi’s Seagulls by a Toffees outfit deep in relegation trouble under Sean Dyche towards the end of the 2022-23 campaign.
Begovic said of Everton ahead of their visit to Brighton: “We’re obviously sitting in a much better, positive light after winning against Spurs.”
“We go there with full confidence. We believe in the squad that we have and Brighton are a good side, there’s no getting away from it.”
Begovic also pointed out how challenging the Premier League is this season, describing it as “very, very competitive.”
The goalkeeper added that any visit to the American Express Stadium is tough and that Everton know they will have to be at their best to come away with a result.
“For us, it’s about trying to be aggressive, making sure that we look after what we need to do and pick up as many points as we can, secure safety status in the Premier League and then obviously kick on from there.”
“It’s another opportunity. Brighton [got a] massive result against Man Utd, so they’re going to be full of confidence again. But we go there with our confidence, with a new manager bounce.”
If the Albion can end their poor home run against Everton, it would see them win three Premier League games in a row for the first time since promotion to the top flight in 2017.
It would also end Fabian Hurzeler’s wait for a home victory against opponents in the bottom half of the table. The German has overseen Amex wins against Manchester United, Spurs and Manchester City but failed to beat Ipswich Town, Wolves, Southampton, Crystal Palace and Brentford.
All to play for then; Everton in their continual quest for survival and Brighton as they look to push upward and into the European places. Albeit, with somewhat of an injury crisis for Hurzeler to contend with at the moment.
