Jamie Vardy backed Leicester to escape relegation after inspiring the win to end a seven-match winless run at Tottenham and climb out of the Premier League’s relegation zone.
‘One hundred per cent, I back every single one of them,’ said the 38-year-old veteran captain. ‘We all know what is at stake. We want to play nice football but that was three points in the right direction.
‘Hopefully it stops the rot we have been in. The lads there battled through for 90 minutes and it is credit too to the manager what he’s been doing on the training pitch.
‘At times you want to be the team playing the nice football but at times during a game it is not on. We have all stuck together as a team. We knuckled down, stayed together and got the big win.’
Vardy equalised in the first minute of the second half after Richarlison had given Spurs a first-half lead and Ruud van Nistrelrooy backed the former England striker to keep scoring goals.
Van Nistelrooy said: ‘If I look at other 30-year-old strikers, and at how he is performing, his fitness levels and how he plays in and out of possession and what a leader he is for us – it is remarkable. The way he looks after himself, for me, implies he can carry on for a long time.’

Vardy celebrated by taunting the Tottenham fans over their failure to ever win a Premier League title, something he managed to do with Leicester in their fairytale season of 2016

As for escaping the drop and improving morale, the Leicester boss said: ‘We enjoy this moment, we were looking for this moment. The players were training every week to show what they are capable of.
‘They did but results weren’t there so this was a good way to celebrate a really good win away at Spurs – it is a tough place to come and get three points.
‘I believe in what we are doing so in that sense I am not relieved or surprised this team is capable of doing these things. In terms of results? Yes. After seven losses and all the work that has been put in and all the emphasis on development and work without points – the win was needed and very welcome.’
