Euro 2024 is just around the corner, with the opening game less than a month away.
England manager Gareth Southgate will name his preliminary Euro squad this afternoon as the Three Lions eye their first Euro title.
It is expected that the England coach will name a larger training squad of around 30 or more players heading into England’s upcoming friendlies – so he can field a 22 player squad for those games before narrowing down his squad to the final selection.
This is because some of English players will be unavailable to take part in the upcoming friendlies such as Jude Bellingham and any Manchester City, Manchester United players who will need a break because they will be playing in the Champions League final and FA Cup final.

What time will the England squad be announced?
Gareth Southgate will announce his preliminary Euro 2024 squad at 2pm UK time on Tuesday, May 18.
When will Southgate need to confirm his tournament squad for UEFA?
Southgate will need to reduce his 30 plus man squad down to a maximum of 26 players by UEFA’s June 7, deadline for the tournament.
England hopefuls will know whether or not they have successfully made it into the 26-man squad just seven days before the tournament is set to get underway in Germany on Friday, June 14.
When are England’s friendlies?
The Three Lions will conduct their final pre-tournament preparations on June 3 and June 7 with two friendly games in England.
The first of the two will see Southgate’s men take on Bosnia and Herzegovina at St James Park on Monday, June 3.
The squad will then come up against Iceland in Wembley on Friday, June 7 before they play their first Euro 2024 game on June 16 against Serbia.
When does Euro 2024 start?
The official start date for Euro 2024 is Friday, June 14 when hosts Germany play Group A opponents Scotland at Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena.
England’s Euro journey will get underway two days later on Sunday, June 16 when they meet the first of their Group C opponents Serbia in Gelsenkirchen.

Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon is another on the boarder between making or missing out on Germany this summer
Who might miss the cut?
Although this year’s tournament has seen an increase in the number of players a team can take with them to the summer competition some of England’s household names may still miss out.
Southgate can take a maximum of 26 players to Germany this summer, however he is not obliged to do so.
If he wishes he could take a minimum of 23 players to battle it out for European glory this summer.
West Ham’s star man this year Jarrod Bowen, Mason Mount, Anthony Gordon and Ollie Watkins could all miss out on being apart of the Three Lions squad for the tournament by the slimmest of margins.
