Manchester City duo Josko Gvardiol and Jeremy Doku have been included in WhoScored.com‘s Under 21 Team of the Season.
Gvardiol had a magnificent end to the campaign, scoring four goals during the run-in to help Pep Guardiola’s side seal their fourth consecutive Premier League title.
The Croatian international was given a 7.03 rating for his performances and the summer signing will be hoping to build on that during his second year at the club.
Doku (7.24) also put in some impressive displays, albeit he has shown that there is still room for improvement in his game.
Three goals and eight assists in the Premier League is not a bad return, but City fans will be looking for more of an end product as he matures over the next few years.
The pair have a promising future ahead of them at City
The fact that Gvardiol and Doku made it into WhoScored‘s team is a good sign. Both were young signings who needed time to adapt to English football.
It wouldn’t have been easy for them, not only because they were not used to the league, but also the pressure that comes with big price tags.
Gvardiol cost City £77.6m when he was bought from RB Leipzig while Doku was snapped up for £55.5m from Rennes. Those are not small sums even in the modern game.
Who else made it into WhoScored’s Under 21 Team?
Former Manchester City keeper James Trafford (6.65) was selected in goal, despite having some difficulties during his first season at Burnley.
Gvardiol is joined in defence by Chelsea right-back Malo Gusto, Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite and Nottingham Forest centre-half Murillo.
Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo, Chelsea pair Moises Caicedo and Cole Palmer, as well as Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka were named alongside Doku in midfield. Brighton forward Joao Pedro leads the line.
