The Friedkin Group, owner of AS Roma, explored the possibility of purchasing West Ham United before setting their sights on Everton, according to iNews.
The American group, led by Dan Friedkin, reportedly considered acquiring both West Ham and a Championship club to expand their football portfolio. However, a takeover of West Ham seems unlikely with David Sullivan, holding a 38.8% stake, unwilling to relinquish any shares
While opinions on Sullivan’s ownership are divided, a change in ownership structure appears improbable in the near future. Daniel Kretinsky, the second-largest shareholder (27%), takes a backseat approach, leaving Sullivan in control.
Despite the lack of investment concerns often associated with ownership changes, West Ham have achieved success under Sullivan, winning the Europa Conference League and securing three consecutive European qualifications.
David Moyes’ last season in charge dampened the mood slightly as the Hammers finished ninth in the Premier League, missing out on European football However, excitement surrounds new manager Julen Lopetegui‘s ability to revive the club’s fortunes.
The Friedkin Group’s experience with AS Roma could have been valuable for West Ham, but their focus now appears to be on taking over Everton at Goodison Park
